The new coin ‘BALD’ debuted this weekend on Coinbase’s new chain, Base. It skyrocketed to a market cap of $70 million in less than a day on the LeetSwap decentralized exchange. Before a downturn, the $BALD token had risen more than 4 million percent since its July 29 listing at 21:00 UTC.

BALD coin does not yet have a website or a CoinMarketCap description. Hence, information on it is limited – other than it being described as a meme coin and a tribute to Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong’s bald head. Rumors of connections to Coinbase insiders abound, with some traders even believing that the $BALD deployer is Brian Armstrong himself.

The $BALD token is quite liquid, with a current market cap of $30 million. Now one of the most discussed new coins on cryptocurrency Twitter, some wallet addresses have been traced investing as little as 0.5 ETH in $BALD and reaping up to $1 million. @BuildonBas is the official Twitter handle for the Base network. Approximately $47 million has been bridged to the Base chain, which is now a one-way bridge – $BALD and other Base coin holders cannot yet realize their gains. The bridge to the Ethereum main net will reopen on August 9.
