The well-known artificial intelligence organisation OpenAI made its first purchase, which was publicly acknowledged, when it stated that it had acquired the digital products company Global Illumination. The public was not informed of the specifics surrounding the transaction’s financial aspects. Global Illumination was established in New York in 2021 by entrepreneurs Thomas Dimson, Taylor Gordon, and Joey Flynn, all of whom had prior positions at Instagram, a division of Meta (META). According to his own website, among their many accomplishments, Dimson is credited with helping to write the initial code for Instagram’s content ranking algorithms. Following the acquisition, the whole Global Illumination team will merge with OpenAI and concentrate on core projects. One of OpenAI’s main products, ChatGPT, will receive major attention in terms of future development and improvement. The most recent projects undertaken by Global Illumination focused on developing open-source tools useful for the creation of online games, in accordance with OpenAI’s goal of establishing new directions in artificial intelligence.
